Marisé Checa Dog Rescue

This month, we want to highlight 2 of our most deserving dogs.  First, a tiny little girl called Blacky who is only 4 months old but who has spent 2 months of her short life at the rescue.  She is full of fun, very playful and quite adorable!

At the other end of the scale is Zanqui who is about 9 months old and a crossbreed with an Ibizan hound.  He has had a very tough time at the rescue as, regrettably shortly after arrival, he was severely attacked by one of the other dogs and suffered serious injuries.  Now fully recovered, he is kept mainly on his own to protect him as his placid nature means he will not defend himself.  He is smashing, being the most affectionate and obedient dog in the dog rescue and will do anything to please.  He gets on very well with other dogs. Zanqui is a big dog and needs lots of space to run around but he will make a very rewarding pet.

Sadly, one of our adoptions was not successful this month.  Tinin was re-homed but the new owner lost him the next day. After a week of the volunteers searching the mountains around Caravaca, he was found and is now back in the rescue.  Relief all round as at least we know that he is safe but not the happy adoption we had hoped for. A very sweet small dog, about one year old, who really deserves another chance!

Our rescue helps stray and abandoned dogs from Caracava, Cehegin and the surrounding areas.  It is run by a small dedicated group of Spanish volunteers who give up much of their spare time to the cause. It is important to note that our dogs are fully vaccinated, wormed regularly, walk on a lead, eat dried dog food and are friendly and sociable with people and other dogs.  If a dog is adopted, we can try help to arrange for it to be spayed for no charge.  In addition to adoption, we desperately need practical help with walking the dogs and anyone who could help concrete the outside runs, which are in a dreadful state, would be welcomed with open arms!
