The
regional government of Murcia is working on the draft of a
law against light pollution aimed at reducing the cost of
public street lighting by 50%. The law would ban lasers and
light cannons, often used by discos and some venues, and the
illumination of outside advertising hoardings will be limited
in power and time.
Ecologists have been demanding such legislation for some years,
claiming that lighting has been destroying nocturnal
ecosystems. The draft law could be introduced in the regional
parliament as early as September, and be in force by the end
of the year. |
